Distribution Center |
My Distribution Center wanted to formally training their employees. I was one of 6 employees selected to be the first trainers. After several “Train the Trainer” classes and meeting with trainers from other buildings, we began to build our own department. My new team and I studied and documented every job and interviewed over 20 Subject Matter Experts in 6 different areas.
I was responsible for creating the work instructions, training material, study guides and tests for over 100 different positions. |

| Within 6 months, we structured and documented our training department along with the training program for the entire Distribution Center. | ||

Forklift Training Program1998 I developed an OSHA certified, custom forklift training program for a multi-department distribution center |
The forklift operators at the Distribution Center were completely unregulated, unruly and unsafe. After an OSHA Trainer taught us to operate A, B, and C classes of forklift, our training department created a comprehensive program that trained & tested each driver through physical and written exams. The Forklift Indoctrination consisted of a PowerPoint Presentation, a workbook, teachers guide, a test and 1 remote control forklift. The workbook followed along with the presentation and the students filled in the blanks as it proceeded. It was a lot of material and it kept them from sleeping. When reviewing the workbooks, we used the RC Forklift to illustrate some of the points that may have been difficult to visualize such as maneuvers or parts of a lift. We collected a mass amount of visual documentation to provide identifying pictures and extensive examples of correct and incorrect behavior. |
|
| The class was very successful. Within 6 months, we were able to retrain existing drivers. New drivers, from that point on, were documented as the safest in the company. We went from 3 – 4 accidents a week to 1 – 2 a month. | ||

ASRS Orientation1999 I created an animated PowerPoint Presentation completely explaining an Automated Storage & Retrieval System to 3 shifts of employees that have never seen anything like it. |
The Distribution Center finally moved to a state of the art building with an Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS). Up to this point, they did this by hand. No one, including myself, had ever seen anything like this. It was a giant system that took up half of the building with upper decks, cat walks, high speed cranes and massive conveyor network. After an in-depth walk-thru, I was able to basically create a cartoon in PowerPoint that explained the system from start to finish. Everyone, in all shifts, was required to watch the presentation before they saw the actual system. | |
| The majority of the employees were able to acclimate to the system very quickly. For the 1st 6 months, the presentation was required viewing for new employees. | ||

Process Standardization Project2000 I coordinated a week long event to unify work instructions across all shifts. |
Every department was having a problem maintaining the same process for each shift. A massive compromise needed to happen but it was difficult since the opposing parties never saw each other. I coordinated a series of meetings (catered) that would span 3 days. This involved the coordination of 200+ people, including Engineering, Training and Management Departments to create, revise and reformat over 300 job task instructions. All of these instructions met ISO standards. |
|
| We successfully updated 300+ Work Instructions with provisions for all shifts. A mandate stated from that point on that all instructions have a shift addendum section if relevant. | ||

Business Solutions Group Website2000 Redesigned the existing group site as part of the initiative for an updated and consistent look |
The Business Solutions Group was the onsite application development team for the manufacturing facilities campus. I was promoted into the BSG to innovate the GUI experience of its users. Up until this point, their applications were unappealing, obtuse and difficult to navigate. |
|
| This redesign was part of a group promotional campaign. The new look received high praise and word-of-mouth publicity. This drove up the campus awareness of what the BSG did and generated new work. | ||

Communications Portal2000 Created an ASP based simple message board for interdepartment communication. |
There was an issue of information not being communicated properly between departments and between shifts. My solution was to create a message board accessible to all that was used specically for any issues that arise throughout the work day. |
|
| Repetitive emails were almost completelty erradicated. Area managers noticed a drop in the daily issue count due to the increased visiblity to existing problems. | ||
